For almost 3 years now have been creating my handcrafted jewellery and started my business www.janmarydesigns.com.
If you had told me even 5 years ago I would be doing this I would not have believed you!
I have always loved creating things with my hands. As a child I arranged flowers with my Mum – oasis was my friend! In my late teens I began to do cross-stitch. Ironincally I was never much of a knitter or a crochet-er (if that is the correct term!) as that is probably my most unique jewellery technique 🙂
Once the kids came along, there was less time and energy to create cross-stitch. I dabbled with card craft and started making a few basic necklaces with tiger tail. I still worked part-time in a local bank, but took a career break when my husband’s career took us to England for a year.
During that time I took a Teaching Assistant Course, and was pregnant with our son. My plan had been to apply to be a Classroom Assistant once all 3 kids were in school full time, but my interest in creating jewellery began with a short even class in Lisburn Island Centre. I started digital and scrapbooking and blogging in 2007.
The following year I took another class in our local college, and came to the point where I had to choose which path I would choose. Thanks to a very supportive family I was encouraged to “go for it” and Janmary Designs jewellery began.
I’ll share more of my journey in other posts, but for now, here are a few of my first creations I made for my first customers.
If you have any more questions about how I got started, ask in the comments and I’ll do my best to answer.
