One of the parts of my jewellery business that I love, and it a change from my usual solitary creation of my designs (usually just me and the BBC iplayer) is taking a crafty bead party.
Whether adults, teens or tweens, it is lovely to see their reaction on seeing the beads, selecting their charms and choosing their beads, planning their design. With a little bit of direction, they are soon creating their first bracelet, and often there is a request to make a second one too if they have time. All beads, tools and supplies will be provided, and each guest will leave with a completed item with a coordinated gift bag.
Last night I was at a party for eleven 13 year olds. They seemed to really enjoy creating something, and it was interesting to see their personalities reflected in their choice of beads and charms. Some made random rainbow bracelets, others precisely planned their repeating pattern, some selected shoes and handbag charms, for others it was a beachy theme of starfish, shells and lighthouses.
At one stage one of the girls said to me “You could do this as a job you know” – “I already do!” I replied 🙂
